Augustiner Keller: Massive beer garden in Munich, Germany
For our final beer garden in Munich, we were joined by my mom, and brought her to the absolutely massive Augustiner Keller, which is right in the middle of the city. This is the third largest beer garden in Munich, and can hold 5,000 people. Really amazing place with a ton of outdoor seating, a full restaurant, and a cellar bar called “Lagerkeller”. Another cool thing about it is the beer is gravity-poured from wooden casks, which gives it less carbonation and more flavor due to it being warmer and more aerated.
And that’s it for Munich! Next up… Austria.
While in Munich, we made a point to go to as many authentic beer gardens as possible, which often meant traveling outside of the tourist areas via public transportation. “The Beer Drinker’s Guide to Munich” by Larry Hawthorne was indispensable in helping us figure out which beer gardens were worth going to, and in showing us exactly how to get to them. Plus, it has coupons for free beer!!!
