Sunny skies spur satisfied crowds to MAAM WWII Weekend
The spirit of Gen. Patton’s immortal weather prayer was in evidence last weekend as a dire rain forecast gave way to mostly clear skies for the 28th annual MAAM World War II Weekend. Hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, Pennsylvania, the WWII Weekend featured veterans, survivors, descendants and authors who shared gripping stories about the Second World War. Vintage automobiles, tanks, motorcycles, personnel carriers and jeeps rumbled carefully across the tarmac, while the sky was abuzz with more than a dozen WWII era aircraft. Crowd favorites included the B-17 “Movie Memphis Belle”, and “FiFi” and “Doc” — the world’s last two air-worthy B-29 Super Fortresses. Also on hand to provide a glimpse of life during the 1940s were hundreds of military and civilian reenactors. Please enjoy the following photo roundup of some of the scenes from this year’s event.
