Summer Ending: Get the most out of it
I’m not sure about you, but it seems like just yesterday it was June and now here we are nearly halfway through September. We slogged through a terribly long winter just waiting for the day when we could break out the shorts and flip flops and now the leaves are starting to change again. Although there are things about winter I absolutely love (boots, big scarves, the holidays, snow), summer has always been my number one.
So once September hits, I start panicking, thinking of all the things I wanted to do over the summer but haven’t had a chance to. Pretty much everything I want to do can be turned into a date, so here’s my 2014 summer bucket list, just in case some of you also want some last-minute ideas to squeeze the most out of the end of your summer.
- Check out Bengies drive-in once more. We’ve only been twice this summer, and both times it was raining. You tend to miss things when watching through a wall of water. I’d like to get at least one more visit in, preferably on a clear night when I don’t have to watch through my wipers.
- Not too long ago, there was a meteor shower, and my fiancé and I watched it while laying on the roof of our Jeep. It was one of the most fun and romantic times I’ve had with him. We didn’t see that many shooting stars, but we stayed up all night talking and then fell asleep together in the early morning hours. I highly recommend it before it gets too cold.
- Have a picnic in the park. It doesn’t even have to be an official park. Just post up in your backyard! I just love the idea of eating outside. Cooking up some hot dogs or even eating cold friend chicken from KFC, I don’t care, just give me some sun, grass, a comfy blanket and my sweetie.
- I hate to even admit it but I’ve only been to one baseball game this entire summer. I’ve never been to a baseball game where I didn’t have fun (and spend way too much money). Even if you don’t pay too much attention to the game, the people watching cannot be beat and the Orioles could be heading to the World Series!
- Walk on the beach at night. Even though we live only two hours from the beach, Awesome and I haven’t managed to make it there this summer. The beach is our absolute favorite place to be, and I cannot let the summer go by without at least taking a walk in the sand and surf.
- Visit a carnival to ride the ferris wheel, eat cotton candy, play dumb games, hold hands and people-watch.
- Pick fresh fruits from a local farm. Here, we go to either Baugher’s or Larriland Farms to pick our own fruits and vegetables. It’s fun, it’s cheap, and the fruit tastes way better than anything you could pick out at the grocery store.
