CBD and Diabetes

It won’t be wrong to say that CBD, or Cannabidiol, is the current state of the health and wellness industry. With its exquisite non-psychoactive quality and medical values, CBD has become a favorite ingredient across America.

Most of us are already aware of its healing properties. It has successfully proven to make people feel better, in terms of conditions, such as, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, headaches, digestive issues, epilepsy, and inflammation.

Due to its anti-inflammatory qualities, CBD is slowly making its way into the lives of diabetic patients as well.  In fact, there are many instances across the US where people suffering from type 2 diabetes noticed major control in their blood sugar level.

So, if you are suffering from sugar, then perhaps you must give CBD a try. It comes with no side effects, thus, it is pretty convenient to take a chance with it. If you are intrigued to know more about it, then continue reading this article.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a condition in which your body fails to process sugar. This results in health problems, such as eye problems, nerve damage, muscular pain, heart disease, or stroke. So, the best thing in this situation is to either stop consuming sugar or get proper medication.

In the US, more than 10% of people have diabetes. So, it is necessary to reach a solution to drive this disease out of the human body. However, in today’s world, this condition has become quite normal since the environment outside and inside our bodies has become so toxic.

CBD might an easy and inexpensive way to get this condition out of your body.

Why Diabetic people are considering CBD as a treatment?

As per Veronica J. Brady, Ph.D., CDE, a nurse and assistant professor at Cizik School of Nursing at the University of Texas, “When people are in pain, they have a stress response, which causes an increase in cortisol and an increase in blood sugar,” she continued, “Relieving pain can help alleviate the stress response and improve blood sugar levels, as well as improve sleep.”

Now, CBD is already associated with relieving people from chronic pains. So, this directs that CBD might have a healing effect on diabetic people as well.

Even though there aren’t any comprehensive studies or scientific research done in this area, there are a few instances where people felt relief in their diabetes-induced symptoms.

Dr. Brady, a certified diabetes instructor living in Nevada, tells the story of a type 2 diabetes patient who claimed to use CBD for her nerve pain induced by her condition. She said she rubbed CBD tinctures on her feet and more places that caused her pain and after a certain period of time; she got her blood sugar level has improved as well as better sleep.

Canadian study published in Pain did a study on 37 diabetic people, who experienced loss of nerve pain and improved sleep after taking CBD for a few days.

Dr. Toth, who led the above study, says that it was noticed that along with better sleep and reduced pain, people also mentioned a reduction in their anxiety level. Well, that’s good news in every sense of the word.

There needs to be a lot of research done in this field. However, it seems that diabetic patients aren’t waiting any further to try this unique treatment for their condition, especially now that there is at least a handful of evidence to support the argument.

Does CBD have any effect on blood sugar level?

As mentioned before, there have been little to no studies in the area apart from those on rodents. Since the human body works differently than rats, one cannot be sure of CBD’s effect on blood sugar level.

However, we do know that CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system of the body, which regulates the metabolism and nervous system. According to Emerging data, the endocannabinoid system sets the sensitivity of the insulin response in adipocytes.” This means that the endocannabinoid system regulates body insulin.

The intake of CBD by diabetic patients has affected their blood sugar levels in different ways. While some experienced little to no change in their system, a few of them felt a dramatic decrease in their blood sugar level. Thus, one cannot conclude anything about CBD and its effect on blood sugar levels.

Conclusion

Regardless of whether you have diabetes or not, CBD is doing wonders in the wellness industry. People are even using it as a supplement since it is not known to have any side effects.

In case you want to start using CBD for your treatment of diabetes, then it is recommended to consult your doctor, or a cannabis practitioner to find the best CBD solution for your condition. Also, make sure that you only purchase your products from a well-reputed company verified by a third-party lab testing company.
