Bridge over an empty river

“Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build bridges even when there are no rivers.” – Sir Isaac Newton

Eloquent rhetoric
Used to convince each other
how much they need to build this bridge
Smother one another
In racy talk
Predestined agendas outlined in chalk

All just to convince each other
how much they need
to build this bridge
A bridge to nowhere
Built on a foundation of our disgust
Beams erected with each earmark
Thus weakening with lack of trust

And the truss won’t support
the weight of many broken hearts
and shattered dreams
so when it comes crashing down
We will all hear the screams

They surely can convince each other
Just how much they need to build this bridge
But you can’t convince my sisters and brothers
all the fathers and mothers
That this bridge is really necessary
Badly flawed and built over a river that’s empty

Simply

Designed with faulty engineering
While the architects spend all their time
Fattening their pockets in congressional hearings
This unnecessary bridge is built with our dime
