Baltimore Competitors Yoga-up for Competition

Press release from Bikram Yoga Baltimore

Baltimore, MD – Yoga competitors from the Baltimore area are going pose-to-pose in the 2012-13 Mid Atlantic Regional USA Yoga Asana Championship on Sunday, January 13th. Bikram Yoga Baltimore sponsors 5 competitors from Baltimore to represent the studio with hopes to bring home the men and women’s championship title.

“Our competitors are strong and have been training for the last several months as part of their yoga practice,” says Bikram Yoga Baltimore owner Eddie Garner. “But the event is more than a competition, it is designed as a yoga-expo and promotes the health, discipline, and personal achievement available through Hatha yoga.”

Baltimore resident Luke MacDonald has been practicing yoga for two years and is competing in the championship.  He says, “It is amazing to be a part of it all and to witness just what the human body is capable of doing.  This yoga is great cross training and adds value to running, weight lifting, and other activities. I’ve come to see it as the central component of my overall health.” Luke adds, “the competition is not about winning.  It’s about focusing on a goal, and I’m looking forward to seeing the what the other competitors can do.”

The winners of the Mid-Atlantic competition will advance to the 2013 Bishnu Ghosh Cup, a global championship held in Los Angeles, CA. The Cup championship is part of a larger initiative to portray yoga as a competitive sport and up for consideration as a 2016 Summer Olympic sport and to make yoga a more widely popular practice, thus spreading yoga’s benefits to as many people as possible.

The event brings together over 20 regional competitors and held at the South Lakes HS Theater, 11400 South Lakes Drive, Reston, Virginia.
