Sharing the blessing of life: Becoming a surrogate mother

Many people dream of having children to love and to nurture. There is an unexplainable feeling of bonding and connection that children and parents feel for each other that all the money in the world can’t buy. Having a child is truly a miraculous blessing that is worth cherishing and worth dreaming of.

However for some same-sex couples, couples with infertility problems and people who want to lead a single life but still are wanting to have children, this may not come easy. They may need some assistance in turning this dream into reality. Luckily, science has made a way to make this dream possible. Surrogacy is now an option for both couples and individuals who would like to have children of their own.

Surrogacy has been around for not more than a century and yet it has already helped many childless couples and hopeful parents to have children they can call their own. If you’re thinking about becoming a surrogate mother, one of the easiest ways to approach this journey is with the help of a professional surrogacy agency.

You can check out your local surrogacy agency in Baltimore or in other major cities in Maryland, which will be able to provide you with more information about the surrogacy process. However, in choosing a surrogacy agency, you must take into account many factors. The agency must be legitimate, ethical and legally allowed to do these procedures.

Before deciding to take on the great challenge of becoming a surrogate mother, you must first do your research thoroughly and carefully. Check out the laws and regulations in your state and make sure to take note of all the important matters regarding surrogacy.

To give you an idea of what surrogacy is, we have summarized it all for you. Continue reading below to learn more about the two types of surrogacy: Traditional Surrogacy and Gestational Surrogacy.

Traditional Surrogacy, also known as partial, genetic, natural or straight surrogacy, is a type of surrogacy involving another medical procedure called artificial insemination. Traditional surrogacy is done by deliberately introducing and implanting sperm into the surrogate mother’s egg in order for fertilization to occur.

The surrogate mother, in this type of surrogacy, is genetically related to the child. If the sperm used in this procedure is the intended father’s sperm, then the intended father is also genetically related to the child. However, another man’s sperm may also be used in this procedure if the intended father’s sperm is not viable for the surrogacy.

Gestational Surrogacyis another type of surrogacy. Of the two procedures, this is the newer one and it also involves a medical procedure called in vitro fertilization(IVF). IVF technology works by combining the egg and sperm, both of which are from the intended parents themselves. This is then followed by its introduction to the surrogate mother’s womb.

If you are a woman who is healthy and fertile, you can become a surrogate mother and share the miracle of life with couples who are in need of your help. Indeed, there is nothing more heroic and selfless than being able to share your blessings and happiness with others. Becoming a surrogate mother and being a part of a hopeful couple’s journey to becoming parents takes a special kind of courage and heart.
