Ryan Clayton: ‘Congress is broken; Supreme Court is sold’

Ryan Clayton, executive Director of “Wolf Pac,” spoke Wednesday at a public meeting spotlighting the issue of separation of wealth and state in our country’s electoral system.

As a result of a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision (k/a “Citizens United”), “corporate personhood” was legalized. This has opened a floodgate allowing tons of corporate money to roll into the political arena, Clayton says.

In effect, the Court said “money is speech.”

Bottom line: Big Fat Cat donors, like the Koch Brothers, can now make mega-donations to the U.S. Congress, and at the local and state levels  and hide behind a huge wall of secrecy. Clayton and other activists are looking to get a Constitutional Amendment passed to overturn the court’s decision. This will be a herculean task. To learn more about this issue, go to Get Money Out – Maryland.Activist Charlie Cooper moderated the event. It was held in the Peabody conference room of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland in Baltimore.

Clayton says, “People are angry….Congress is broken and the Supreme Court is sold.”

We want the people pushing this Corporate Personhood issue to address the gorilla in the room—–if you have no Rule of Law the amendment will simply be another law ignored and unenforced.
