Myths About Kydex IWB Holsters

Listen to this article

For a long time, people preferred to have leather holsters that are eventually changing now. However, there are still some myths and facts revolving around this industry. This blog is to clarify those myths concerning Kydex IWB Holsters.

Let’s explore the blog to know further.

Myths About Kydex IWB Holsters

It Damages the Finish

Many people do not like to purchase Kydex holsters as they claim that it damages or scratches the finish of their handguns. They think that it is because of the Kydex material used to make these holsters. First, it makes some sense as the material is relatively hard in comparison to leather. However, it is considered a myth because people have also witnessed the same with leather IWB holsters.

It does not even matter what type of material you prefer buying your holsters. If you draw and re-holster the gun rigorously, the more it will damage your gun. Therefore, you should take some preventive measures to minimize these damages. Ensure that the holster you use is of high quality. Also, each Kydex holster is molded to a particular firearm so that it can provide you with high-degree retention. Thus, it is significant to ensure that the firearm is tight and secured in the holster. Poorly made holsters can damage your gun severely even if the gun fits in it appropriately.

All The Kydex Holsters Are Similar

If you are familiar with leather holsters, then you are aware of different leather grades like the top-grain, full-grain, bonded, or suede.  Similarly, Kydex IWB holsters also have distinct grades. And, not all the Kydex materials are the same. It is because a company named Sekisui Kydex manufactures approximately forty different types of thermoplastic sheets which are known by the same name as Kydex.

But, each of these sheets is not used for making holsters. A specific type of thermoplastic material like the Kydex 100 is used. It is precise and fulfills all the requirements needed to make these holsters. It is easy to work with and highly resistant to impacts and abrasion. Hence, not all the Kydex holsters are the same.

They Are Maintenance Free

This myth is partly true. It is because Kydex requires less maintenance as compared to leather. While leather IWB Holsters requires particular soaps and conditioner to clean and polish, Kydex material is hard and need not require specific products to clean it. However, when not cleaned regularly, it tends to attract more dust, grime, and other foreign objects. These pollutants get accumulated in the holster, thereby damaging your weapon. It can be done even in perfectly fitted, quality holsters.

But you will be happy to know that the cleaning process of the Kydex holsters is effortless and straightforward. You only have to remove dirt and grimes using casual soap and water and use a microfiber cloth to wipe them down. For more dirty holsters, regular detergents are also recommended.

People having a firearm should be aware of these myths to prevent themselves from buying products not worth their weapon.
