Maryland Oktoberfest returns to Timonium State Fairgrounds

The Original Maryland Oktoberfest, which dates back to 1969, will again celebrate the arrival of Autumn in a way only the Germans can do. Break out the dirndls and lederhosen and get ready to ‘tap’ the keg! The Maryland Oktoberfest will be held at the Timonium Fairgrounds on September 24th and 25th.

The site of the festivities will be the large 4H Building on the Fairgrounds. The festival opens at 11:30 on the 24th and will have the Oktoberfest barrel parade. It runs until 10 PM on Saturday and will re-open at 11:30 on Sunday with closing activities at 6PM. There will be German bands and traditional dance groups. Confirmed performers so far: Kapellmeister Dockenspielers, Alpenrose Schuhplattler Verein, and Heidi und Heimat Echo band.

Bring your appetite. We will have German food, German and domestic beer, wine, schnapps, and non-alcoholic beverages. We will have a beer garden where you can relax.  Vendors will display and sell German crafts, clothing, and collectables.  For kids, there will be face painting and puppet shows.

Admission fees are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens & active military (with ID), and children under 12 are free with a paying adult. MasterCard and VISA will be accepted and there are ATMs on the premises. Parking is free, or take the Light Rail to the Timonium Fairgrounds stop. Those of you who remember past Oktoberfests at the Fifth Regiment Armory will recall the famous Fruit Monument. The monument will again be part our the event. The Original Maryland Oktoberfest is hosted by the Deutschamerikanischer Bürgerverein von Maryland, Inc.
