Manchester United Wins Last Sunday’s Match Against Chelsea

Frank Lampard must have gotten disappointed after last Sunday (August 11, 2019) when his team’s first Premier League match ended with a score of 4-0 in favor of Manchester United.

The said match happened at the Old Trafford on Renault Super Sunday. Plenty of fans were looking forward to this as Manchester United and Chelsea have quite a rivalry. Both teams won’t be seeing each other for a long time too.

Surely, this was a high time for football fanatics to place their bets on their favorite bookies such as betting sites. Odds for this match looked a lot like in favor of Manchester United for most sites.

Betway had 3.8 for Chelsea while 2.1 for Manchester. NetBet then had 3.9 for Chelsea and 2.05 for Manchester. 888 Sport had 4 and 2.1, with still Manchester with the lower number or as the favorite. This was just really the pattern for most popular betting sites out there.

When it comes to how the game went, it was most likely Chelsea itself that was really surprised and of course, literally defeated. Here’s how the game looked like.

Manchester’s United’s line-up consisted of Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindeloef, Luke Shaw, Andreas Pereira, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, and David de Gea as the team’s goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s line-up consisted of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Emerson, Kurt Zouma, Mason Mount, Pedro, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley, Jorginho, and Tammy Abraham. All seemingly failed to stoop the four goals coming from the Red Devils.

It was Marcus Rashford who soared with two goals, and Anthony Martial and Daniel James also gave the team one goal each.

It was really Chelsea that had a lot of opportunities to score a goal but just really missed them. The weak defense is what made them beat. The defensive errors from the team were just simply not included in their plans.

Kurt Zuoma seems to have the blame on these defensive errors. His first fault was something he was able to get away with. This was when his stray pass across the box and found Martial, who then was able to get to his goal.

However, what he wasn’t able to get away with was when he unnecessarily brought Rashford down. This penalty resulted to him getting dispatched and replaced by Ross Barkley. Barkley also had his attempt for a goal, but de Gea just didn’t allow it to happen.

The first goal from Rashford was earned during a penalty spot on the 18th minute of the game. The second goal came from Anthony Martial, then another from Rashford came in. Both goals were just spaced with just two second-half minutes.

The last goal came that came from Daniel James came in just a few minutes before the whole game ended. It’s true that Chelsea had a lot of chances to earn a goal, but what really seemed to have happened is the lack of defense from those 4 goals that the Red Devils produced.

Frank Lampard even noticed this and said to an interview that they indeed controlled major parts of the first half. They hit the woodwork and had poor decisions in the final third. He also said that they should have been in the lead at half-time.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was beaming on his interview. He said the second half was what he found outstanding. The team was really focused on the ball and counter-attacked when it was really needed.

Solskjaer had to thank the fact that his boys were such in good shape. He said that they have been training really hard. He thinks that this is just the start and things will go a lot better. The second half gave them confidence that they just really settled down and passed the ball around.

With what happened during this game, Lampard can only admit that they’ve learned a lot of lessons from this game. While it’s true that they are missing international and big players, he doesn’t want to put the blame on that. He just wants to admit the mistakes and learn from them.

While Lampard was honest about the team’s opportunities, this just made the team seem to have a lot to work on. They simply can’t do anything else other than accept and work on the opportunities. The 4-0 loss of the team is just something that shouldn’t be ignored.

Lampard also said this to this team. In another interview, he shared that what he told his team after the game is that they have to watch and analyze the moves that happened in the game so that they can correct them.
