Come join the March on Washington

On Tuesday at the New Shiloh Baptist Church in West Baltimore, I discussed the upcoming “March on Washington,” with long-time advocate for social justice, Marvin “Doc” Cheatham.

The demonstration is set for August, 24th on the National Mall, in Washington, D.C. The National Action Network (NAN) is the principal organizer of the rally.

The Rev. Al Sharpton is its national president. NAN’s local chapter under the leadership of popular radio host and ex-Maryland State Senator Larry Young is strongly pushing for mass participation in the event to “realize the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King.”

In addition, a wide coalition of nationally-based Civil Rights, Peace & Justice groups, Labor organizations and Gay & Lesbian advocates are also supporting this important demonstration as part of the struggle for justice in this country. See for a partial listing here. Cheatham urged the community to attend the event, which is “celebrating and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.”
