Letters to the Editor: Readers Sound Off on Trump’s Conviction

Dear Editor,

Former president Trump, you had four years to lead the United States and failed us by your choosing.   Whether it be in foreign policy or domestic policy, you did not protect the United States as commander in chief.

We the American people have finally borne witness to what happens when they place an incompetent businessman into the Oval Office.  Especially one who had everything handed to him.

Quality of life is not a business decision, sir.  Rather, it is a humane choice to be empathetic to those who cannot help themselves.  This is why government exists.

Now comes the jury’s decision making you a convicted felon.  Have you no shame and decency sir?  As was said about former president Richard Nixon, jail to the chief.

You only complain and moan about what others have done to you.  However, by all accounts, you put yourself in precarious situations and are now facing the consequences.

MAGA has become a dog whistle for Nazis.  Your followers would have made great “Brown Shirts” in Hitler’s Germany.   They demonstrated their loyalty to you on January 6, 2021—an event you instigated.

As for inflation, somebody encouraged Corporate America to gouge us at the grocery stores, gas stations, and pretty much everywhere at the point of purchase.

Because of your words and actions, many now prefer the “old man” over the felon.

Trump’s guilty verdict is another reason he’s unfit for office

Dear Editor,

It’s official: After making secret hush money payments to an adult film star 11 days before the 2016 election and falsifying official filings to hide the truth from the public, Donald Trump has been found guilty by a New York jury.

Trump’s conviction in New York should remind us all that no one—including a former president—is above the law. It should also remind us of the danger that Trump still poses to our democracy.

In the final weeks of the 2016 election, Trump covered up his affair with Stormy Daniels to dupe voters and improve his chances of winning the election. As it turns out, this would only be his first foray into undermining our elections. The New York trial may be over, but Donald Trump still faces three additional indictments and 54 criminal charges for a litany of crimes, including federal charges for his efforts to incite violence and overturn the will of voters after he knew he’d lost the 2020 election.

This is a pattern. The jury has done their job to hold Trump accountable. Now, it’s time for the American people to do our part and hold him accountable at the ballot box.

Sincerely,

Trump was found guilty—he should be disqualified from office

Dear Editor,

Donald Trump was found guilty by a jury of everyday Americans on 34 felony counts. He is finally being held accountable for one of his many illegal schemes to gain and hold onto power. His conviction is a reminder that no one—including a former president—is above the law. And it’s another reminder that Trump still poses a major threat to our democracy.

When he was President, Trump attacked our fundamental freedoms, from our freedom to vote in 2020 when he attempted to overturn the will of the people, to appointing three extreme Supreme Court justices that overturned Roe v. Wade and abortion rights for millions of Americans.

The New York trial may be over, but Donald Trump still faces three additional indictments and 54 criminal charges for a litany of crimes, including federal charges for his efforts to incite violence and overturn the will of voters after he knew he’d lost the 2020 election. And on top of all that, he’s STILL running for president.

Our fundamental freedoms are on the line. Don’t let a convicted fraudster hold the highest office in our land. It’s up to us to stand up and defeat Trump at the ballot box this November.

Sincerely,

A jury has spoken: Donald Trump is not above the law

Dear Editor,

By now, we’ve all heard the news that Donald Trump was found guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying his company’s business records to keep information from voters that he knew would harm his 2016 presidential campaign.

This isn’t just about “hush money” payments. It’s about breaking the law to hide the truth from the American people 11 days before a presidential election.

Trump has a clear pattern of lying to the American people and trying to undermine our elections in order to cling to power. He still faces three additional indictments and 54 criminal charges, including federal charges for inciting an insurrection to overturn the 2020 election. In spite of all of this, he’s still running for president.

Donald Trump is a convicted fraudster and criminal who still poses a massive threat to our fundamental freedoms. We can’t let him hold the highest office in our land in 2025. It’s up to all of us to hold him accountable and defeat him at the ballot box in November.

Sincerely,
Nancy Rivers
