WASHINGTON – Massachusetts Democrats prefer Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden as the party’s 2020 presidential nominee over the state’s junior senator, Elizabeth Warren, according to a poll released Monday.

Emerson Polling found that 26 percent of the respondents said they support Sanders (I-Vt.) and 23 percent said they support Biden, who has not yet entered the race.

Fourteen percent said they support Warren. Eleven percent said they support South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Eight percent said they support former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (Texas). Seven percent said they support Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif.).

Two percent said they support Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.). The same percentage said they support Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.). The other candidates polled at 1 percent or below.

The survey included 371 likely Massachusetts Democratic primary voters and was carried out Thursday through Monday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

An accompanying survey found that both Sanders and Biden would defeat President Donald Trump in Massachusetts by a larger percentage than Warren.

That survey included 761 Massachusetts voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

Recent polls have shown Sanders leading the ever-growing Democratic field. Biden leads when prospective candidates are considered.

No Republican has carried Massachusetts in a presidential election since Ronald Reagan in 1984.
