Nando’s Peri-Peri plans to open three new restaurants in Greater Baltimore area

Press Release from Nando’s Peri-Peri

Washington DC  —  Nando’s Peri-Peri announced that it plans to open three new restaurants in the Greater Baltimore Area. To kick-off its Baltimore expansion, Nando’s Peri-Peri will open its doors at Waugh Chapel, MD on December 19th, followed by its first downtown Baltimore location scheduled to open in March 2013. These locations will be succeeded by several other restaurant locations in the Baltimore area, including one planned for Towson, Maryland.

The grand opening of Nando’s Peri-Peri Waugh Chapel on December 19th will follow two days of mock services, during which, complimentary meals are offered to all Waugh Chapel residents with advance reservations.

The Waugh Chapel restaurant is conveniently located in the middle of Waugh Chapel Towne Centre, near the theater, and offers 3,500 square feet of interior dining space, as well as 500 square feet of patio space.

The Baltimore Street restaurant will be located at 421 W. Baltimore Street and occupy a total of 3,785 square feet. Just minutes from downtown Baltimore and beautiful views of the inner Harbor, including surrounding popular venues such as 1st Mariners Arena, this location is expected to be a main destination for Baltimore residents.

CEO of Nando’s Peri-Peri USA, Burton Heiss, expresses his excitement by saying, “I can’t wait for the upcoming openings. We have so much in store for us in the future, it’s a very exciting time.” Heiss also speaks about the great opportunities found within the Baltimore market: “We were attracted to the diverse group of office workers that seek quality and fast-service meals on a daily basis; the students attending downtown universities, and the different area residents and visitors frequenting Baltimore restaurants. We anticipate that our unique food offerings will not only differentiate us from the competition but will quickly breed repeat customers.”;

Along with the new restaurants planned for Waugh Chapel and Baltimore Street, Nando’s Peri-Peri has also signed a lease for space in Towson, Maryland. Several other leases are currently being finalized and will be announced in early 2013.

The first Nando’s restaurant opened its doors in 1987 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then, the Nando’s flame has spread to 27 countries and five continents. Nando’s is known worldwide for its succulent Peri-Peri chicken, marinated for 24 hours, flame-grilled to perfection, and basted to the customer’s preferred flavor and spice. Nando’s Peri-Peri made its USA debut in 2008 with the opening of its first location on 7th Street in Washington, DC’s Chinatown. Nando’s has since opened eight additional restaurants in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area, including DuPont Circle, Silver Spring, Annapolis, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, National Harbor, Pentagon Row and Old Town, Alexandria.
