Ivy Bookshop hosts crime novelists: Laura Lippman and Sujata Massey
The celebrated author of “and when she was good,” Laura Lippman, is well-known to Baltimore’s literary enthusiasts. She is a crime fiction writer of high renown and deservedly so. Well, the Ivy Bookshop on Falls Road at Lake Avenue, hooked her up Tuesday for an engaging evening of crime fiction/mystery book talk, along with an inquiry into literary methods, with Sujata Massey.
Massey, a native of Sussex, England, whose father was from India and mother from Germany, worked as a reporter for the “Baltimore Evening Sun.”
Guess what?
Lippman aonce worked as a reporter at the “Baltimore Morning Sun!” This was back in an era when print journalism was King of the Hill in this country.
Massey’s writing reputation took off after the publication of her “Rei Shimura” mystery novels. Her newest work of fiction, “The Sleeping Dictionary,” will be out in mid-September. It all made for a fun evening as the two talented writers engaged each other on a topic – crime fiction – so central to their own evolving literary personas. To close out the event, there was a Q&A session with the capacity audience.
