Dr. Margaret Flowers: Flush the TPP!
Anti-TPP treaty activists gave Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-7th) an earful as they gathered late on Thursdayoutside his office at 1010 Park Avenue, in Baltimore (right across the street from the BSO).
The protesters underscored that even though the vast majority of Democrats are against the pro-corporate TPP treaty, President Barack Obama is still pushing for its acceptance at the “next round of platform talks in Florida.”
At the moment, Rep. Cummings is head of the National Democratic Platform Committee. So, he’s the point man on this controversial issue and currently in Florida. The activists want, according to their press release, to send a strong message to Rep. Cummings (and to the President) that “the TPP is betrayal.”
I talked with social justice activist Dr. Margaret Flowers at the scene about this matter. (She’s also a candidate for the US Senate in Maryland on the Green Party ticket.) Dr. Flowers shared her views with me. To learn more about the harmful effects of the TPP, go to the website.
