DoubleTree by Hilton Lancaster is a great get-away trip
One of my favorite places to visit, and especially to spend the night, is the DoubleTree by Hilton Lancaster, located at 2400 Willow Street Pike, just outside downtown Lancaster. That is one thing that makes this location so great, it’s situated away from the hustle of the town almost completely surrounded by a par three and four golf course, but close enough to town we can get to it in less than 10 minutes.
It was two years ago since my last visit, so I thought it was time to return and thankfully, so did the owner of the DoubleTree. I didn’t have to resort to my usual crying and begging. There are 185 rooms and that includes about 30 suites. Without question, this is an ideal spot for families.
There’s so much to do right on the property. I already mentioned the nine-hole golf course, but other activities include tennis, basketball and a bus tour of the area on Saturdays that’s complimentary and lasts about three hours. I took this tour and it’s great. It gives you a wonderful impression of Amish country.
And let’s not forget what might be the favorite spot for kids — and OK adults too: the indoor pool and water playground.
Cafe 2400 is open for all three meals. The breakfast buffet is my favorite.
Speaking of favorites, Friday night in the lounge is karaoke. I’m dusting off my Barry Manilow soundtracks as I write this.
Each weekend throughout the summer there are activities planned for families and you’ll also find a kids’ activity room. So pick which one you like.
If you’re planning an event, the Palm Court is an excellent choice. Were I to get married that will be my choice. So ladies please send in your applications. How’s this for convenience, just across the driveway is a chapel.
If a meeting is in your future, DoubleTree by Hilton Lancaster has 17,000 square feet of space available.
There are various package plans from which to chose, be it golf, honeymoon or park (includes tickets to either Dutch Wonderland or Hersheypark). The average rate in the summer is about $159.00.
One thing I especially like: the resort is owned by a local Lancaster family and one of them is always there to make sure things are running smoothly. By the way, parking is free, a definite plus.
