When it comes to pre-workout drinks, you already probably know that the protein market and pre-workout market are humongous industries. However, it usually seems that most pre-workout shakes and drinks are targeted towards men as muscle gaining and energy fuel.
Fortunately, though in recent years, there has been more project regarding pre-workout formulas, and even some that are targeted directly for women, as women need different and more of some nutrients than others for men. Are Pre-workouts Necessary?
While some people don’t want to take a pre-workout, they are greatly beneficial, and if you’re an avid exerciser on a regular basis, you should incorporate a pre-workout formula of some sort in your regime every day that you’re going to exercise (and some people even use these supplements on an everyday basis to help them maintain endurance every day).
Do They Really Work?
While there are some out there that state, they’re the best, as mentioned earlier, you need to pay attention to the ingredients. You’ll want to steer clear of the ones whose primary ingredients are glucose, or sugars, as these can cause a severe crash if you don’t have adequate amounts of proteins in the middle or immediately following your workout.
Some pre-workout supplements even have so much sugar content that even if you eat a small protein meal or snack while you take it (which you are highly recommended to do so), it still can’t compete with the sugar spike you’re going to get, and therefore you’ll end up crashing just the same. Also, as a woman, you’ll want to make sure there are more vitamins like vitamin B’s, and even possibly vitamin D, as many women suffer from not getting enough of these vitamins in their daily intake even if they do take a multivitamin.
While the necessity to take a pre-workout formula is totally up to you. As a woman, you have the right to be strong, but you need to be wise about it and look for the right pre-workout that you’re going to need based on your exercise and endurance or stamina requirements. For example, if you’re doing something like cross-fit, then you’ll want to incorporate a pre-workout supplement that provides a little more of a kick of endurance and energy-producing results (higher amino acids like Creatine and more vitamin B12, and possibly even more caffeine). Be aware of the caffeine content with it if you’re sensitive to caffeine.
