The Anne Arundel Community College Symphony Orchestra will make its Kennedy Center debut as part of the Capital Orchestra Festival sponsored by the Music Celebrations International (MCI) in February.
The festival offers performances at both 2 and 8 p.m. on Feb. 14. The AACC Symphony Orchestra is part of the 8 p.m. performance in the Concert Hall. Tickets are free but must be reserved online at the Kennedy Center calendar of events.
Anna Binneweg, D.M., associate professor of music at AACC and conductor of the orchestra, said being included is a great honor and a great opportunity for the orchestra. The orchestra will perform Verdi’s “Overture to La Forza del Destino;” Beethoven’s “Romance in G Major” featuring violinist Netanel Draiblate, concertmaster of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra; and Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Symphony No. 1.”
Binneweg last conducted a performance at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater in 2012 with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra and the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall with the National Symphony Orchestra in the 2005 National Conducting Institute.
The AACC Symphony Orchestra is part of AACC’s music program. Students and community members audition for the orchestra each year before the fall term. It has performances in the fall and spring. For information, visit http://www.aacc.edu/music/orchestra.cfm
