‘Disney on Ice: Mickey’s Search Party’ skates into Royal Farms Arena
Tinker Bell has a problem: Captain Hook stole her wand and she needs help to find it.
“We need for her to get it back so she can rekindle the Disney magic,” said Alexander Allen, a native of Fort Washington, Md., who is the live host of “Disney on Ice: Mickey’s Search Party,” which skates into Royal Farms Arena for nine shows from Oct. 10 – 14. “We need everyone’s help.”
“Mickey’s Search Party” sets itself apart from its predecessors by being a “completely immersive show” in which the crowd plays a major role in helping Mickey and his friends follow a treasure map to find Tinker Bell’s wand, Allen said.
“This is the first Disney show that uses a completely immersive screen,” Allen said. “The projection mapping we use to create scenes really sets is amazing.”
Disney’s Fab Four – Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Goofy – will be joined by an array of characters, including those from “Frozen,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Moana,” “Coco,” “Aladdin,” “Toy Story” and “The Little Mermaid” in the quest tot find Tinker Bell’s wand.
Disney characters will entertain the crowd as they glide along the ice and soar through the air, as Feld Entertainment, which produces the show, wanted to elevate “Search Party” from previous Disney on Ice editions.
“We have pushed the action past the ice, expanding the stage beyond our traditional surface,” producer Nicole Feld said. “The excitement will not only happen in front of fans, but all around them with characters emerging from the stands in unexpected places for one-on-one delightful moments.”
Allen, who has been working for Disney on Ice since 2007, said his goal is to bring the Disney experience to everyone in the audience.
“We want everyone in the audience and bring people together and have fun, which is what Disney is all about,” he said. “We want for everyone to feel they are part of the show.”
Feld said the show is unlike any other Disney on Ice performance.
“Our goal with any show, no matter where you are in the world, is to deliver transformative performances that captivate audiences time and time again,” she added. “With this production of Disney On Ice, we have brought the magic closer to guests than ever before by having the audience become an integral part of advancing the narrative as each story unfolds.”
