Annapolis March for Our Lives: Mayor pledges to pursue assault weapons ban
Annapolis, Maryland: An estimated crowd of about thousand people gathered at Lawyers Mall near the State House yesterday as part of a nationwide protest called “March for Our Lives.” Hoisting signs urging stricter gun laws while decrying “white terrorists” and the NRA, the crowd listened to remarks from students, activists and the Mayor of Annapolis, Gavin Buckley.
In prepared remarks, Mayor Buckley talked about what he believes to be the positive impact of gun control laws in his native Australia. Buckley also announced that he would pursue an assault weapons ban in the City of Annapolis.
(Firearms defined under State law as “assault long guns,” including firearms specifically enumerated under § 5-101(r)(2) of the Public Safety Article and their copies have been banned in Maryland since 2013.)
After the remarks, protesters marched to Dock Street demanding gun control legislation.
