Gay Pride Parade Rocks: Heather Mizeur gets spotlight
Saturday in Baltimore was the most fun-filled, colorful Pride parade in my memory.
It started with a race, with high heels, that began at Charles & Eager Streets and ended at Chase Street, in Bmore. The weather was picture perfect.
One of the stars of the festivities was Heather Mizeur. A popular Democrat, she is the first openly Gay candidate to run for Governor of the state of Maryland.
When Heather and her wife, Deborah, passed where I was standing near Chase street, the large crowd went wild with cheering and applause.
Two young college-age visitors from Russia were standing next to me. One of them said to me: “This is so much fun. We never see anything like this in Russia. Maybe, one day we will.”
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, of course, made her appearance as she does every year. The parade ended up on Mount Royal & Cathedral, next to the U. of Baltimore. It’s sponsored by Bmore’s growing LGBT community. More fun is planned for tomorrow, Sunday, June 15th, at Mount Royal Station from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
