5 Secretly funny people working in CBD

Thanks to increasing legality and improving accessibility, CBD is currently all the rage and growing ever more popular in 2019. As of 2018, nine states passed legislation allowing for both recreational and medicinal use of cannabis and cannabis-derived products, and the US Farm Bill, passed by Congress in December 2018, legalized hemp. Hemp-derived CBD is legal in all 50 states, and a total of 46 states allow for the use of CBD for medicinal purposes with a prescription. Researchers are conducting ongoing studies that are discovering the many potential CBD benefits.

You may be surprised and delighted to find that CBD isn’t only for the common folk. Celebrities have been using CBD for its natural way of working with the body to alleviate the chronic pain and discomfort associated with many diseases. Likewise, others use it for its medicinal benefits. While it is not a miracle cure, it does provide relief to those suffering from epilepsy, dementia, Crohn’s disease and other gut disordered, PTSD and ADHD, and a variety of metabolic issues. What is more, you may find it interesting to note that some celebrities and others are not only promoting its use but have gotten into the act of working in CBD and developing their own line of products.

Montel Williams

After his diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1999, Montel Williams has been vocal about his use of marijuana and CBD oil. Not only has he assertively advocated for the legalization of marijuana, but he has been a wellness activist outside of the US. Montel opened his own line of products and founded the company Lenitive Labs that manufacture vape products, CBD oils, and hemp-derived CBD capsules. While CBD for pain relief is one purpose for CBD products, the overall goal of Williams’ products is to improve one’s quality of life and “transform the world’s conceptions about wellness by empowering people each day to take control of their well-being.”

Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart has long been a lifestyle influencer and outspoken animal rights activist, and she has recently expanded these roles by joining Canopy Growth, one of Canada’s largest weed corporations. Hers will be an advisory role in the development of a new line of hemp-derived CBD products. These products are intended to embrace a range of categories, including a collaboration that will lead to products for people’s pets. A recent post on her site indicated that the initial trials for CBD oil used on furry friends “seemed promising” and “showed signs of increased comfort” for pets who suffer from osteoarthritis and epilepsy.

Mike Tyson

The former boxer recently broke ground on Tyson Ranch, a 40-acre marijuana ranch and farm located about 50 miles from Los Angeles. Tyson, a heavy CBD and marijuana user, plans to dedicate 20 of those acres to marijuana cultivation and the rest will be used as a resort sporting cabins, campgrounds, and a variety of entertainment. Also in the plans is a Tyson Cultivation School designed to teach growers the important aspects of perfect strains and supporting research on the health benefits of cannabis.

Whoopi Goldberg

Comedian, actress, and TV host Whoopi Goldberg has been open about her use of medical marijuana to assist with glaucoma and CBD for pain relief from menstrual cramps. Her company, Whoopi & Maya, was co-founded with Maya Elisabeth, a medical marijuana industry veteran and founder of Om Edibles. Their signature line of medical cannabis products such as balms, tinctures, soaps, and sipping chocolate is designed and formulated especially for relief of menstrual discomfort and are currently available in California and Colorado.

Gene Simmons

Gene Simmons, Kiss frontman, invested $10 million in the Canadian cannabis grower Invictus last year for the purpose of developing CBD products through cannabis strain promotion. Even though he’s not known for smoking pot, the move to support Invictus was about more than business. Invictus Chairman and CEO Dan Kriznic states:  “The change in our share ticker to GENE reflects the participation of music legend and media mogul Gene Simmons, who joins Invictus as Chief Evangelist Officer and our enterprise vision of providing multiple genetics/strains to cannabis consumers globally as regulations permit.”

While we’ve covered only a few here, there are many other interesting people who endorse, promote, and support cannabis cultivation, research, and development. From Michael J. Fox who has indicated he uses CBD for the relief of his symptoms due to Parkinson to Jennifer Aniston who advocates the use of CBD oils for stress and in beauty products, the list is endless.
