Workers demand fair development in Inner Harbor

Activists demonstrated  in front of the City Hall in Baltimore this week in support of the  “Fair Development Campaign.”

They are protesting the proposed “$107 million TIF for the Harbor Point Project.”

It is  under consideration by a committee of the Baltimore City Council, which was to convened at 5 p.m. The activists underscored how over $2.5 billion taxpayer dollars has been spent on development since the late 1970s, in the area of the Inner Harbor, yet 19 percent of workers in the city still live below the “poverty line.”

The trickle down theory of wealth simply doesn’t work, they claim. The event was co-sponsored by UNITE HERE Local 7 and the United Workers. To learn more about the issues check out the Facebook page of United Workers. Speaking on camera are: Luis Larin, Michael Jones and Tracy Lingo.
