Debbie Reynolds dies, one day after Carrie

Debbie Reynolds, the iconic actress who rose to fame with the classic film Singin’ In The Rain, with Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor — and the mother of iconic Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher — has died. She was 84.

It was just about 28 hours earlier when Fisher passed away, as the result of a heart attack suffered in the final minutes on a flight from London to Los Angeles.  Reynolds died from a stroke.

TMZ is reporting Reynolds and her son (and Carrie’s brother) were planning Fisher’s funeral arrangements Wednesday morning when the stroke occurred. An ambulance was summoned to Todd Fisher’s home in Beverly Hills Wednesday morning. they reported her last words to her son were, “I miss her so much, I want to be with Carrie.” She apparently had the stroke about 15 minutes later.

Besides Singing’ In The Rain, Reynolds was in some other musical classics: The Unsinkable Molly Brown, The Singing Nun and Tammy and the Bachelor. She also starred in The Affairs of Dobie Gillis,  How the West Was Won, Divorce, American Style, In and Out and many others.

She had a TV show that lasted for just one season, The Debbie Reynolds show, that started in 1969. Since then she has appeared on many television shows, including Roseanne, Will & Grace and The Family Guy.

Carrie Fisher’s most popular book, Postcards From the Edge which was made into a popular movie of the same name that starred Meryl Streep, was a fictional account of the lives of Fisher and Reynolds.

This has been a very sad year for the entertainment world.
