MarylandReporter.com website back up
The MarylandReporter.com website, which was hacked on Monday, is back up and running. The roundups from Tuesday and Wednesday have been posted, as have news stories we’ve been holding. All the standard features of the site should be working, but let us know if something doesn’t seem right. Write to [email protected].Thanks for your patience.
I’m glad January is coming to an end. The hacking started in early January – a hacking cough that is. It turned into chills and a fever that kept coming back. It might have been a bout of the flu, despite getting the vaccine last summer. When the fever returned and the cough persisted, the doc thought it might be bronchitis, but ordered an X-ray. A few days later she called and said I had pneumonia in my left lung. No wonder I was feeling like crap for two weeks.
I was standing in the Joint Hearing room of the Legislative Services Building after the first fiscal briefing when I got the diagnosis. It was one of the few events I actually attended in person, with most of my work done remotely on the computer. I’m glad Annapolis is more wired than it was just a few years ago.
The good news is that I didn’t miss much in January. That’s probably true every session, but reporters run around writing about bills that haven’t been introduced, or legislation that won’t make it out of committee.
Then Monday, after the antibiotics had done their job, a scheduled Verizon tech visit didn’t happen – maybe that bill to penalize cable companies when they don’t show up is not such a bad idea. That afternoon the serious website hacking started.
We hope we’ve cleaned it out. Same goes for the persistent pharmaceutical ads that kept showing up when you did a Google search for MarylandReporter.com.
We’re looking forward to the start of February.
