Corey Lewandowski arrested and charged with battery
Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, was officially charged with battery after allegedly grabbing former Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields at a campaign event at the Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, FL.
Earlier this month Fields and fellow Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro had resigned over the incident because the management of Breitbart had taken Trump’s side on the issue, claiming it had been a security person who had grabbed Fields. Both Trump and Breitbart have maintained Lewandowski is innocent, but a surveillance video that has just been made public appears to confirm Fields’ claims it was Lewandowski who “yanked” the reporter away from the candidate.
Since then other Breitbart employees quit, including Kurt Bardella, who had been a spokesperson for the site. He told the New York Times the site betrayed the original intent of founder Andrew Breitbart, that “… everyone should unilaterally be held accountable — whether it be Donald Trump or someone else.”
Reuters is reporting the Jupiter Police arrested and charged Lewandowski with “intentionally grabbing and bruising the arm of Michelle Fields,” a misdemeanor assault charge.
When Fields resigned from Breitbart, she told the New York Times, she “… felt like my employer was working with the Trump campaign to assassinate my character,” and “They were more interested in protecting Trump and coordinating with him on a message, than they were about finding out the truth.”
In a released statement, the Trump campaign responded: “Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge. He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated.”
Lewandowski himself called Fields “delusional” and that he had never even met the reporter.
The surveillance video could be very damning evidence.

Baltimore Post-Examiner is run by a creative cadre of dedicated journalists – some who worked at the Washington Post, Baltimore Examiner and other regional and national publications. It’s the Post-Examiner because we love the play on the word “Post” but we are also hoping to answer that question: What’s next after newspapers? We see a lot of websites come and go – and many simply are not making it for various reasons. We have been a model of success since we launched in 2012 with “a little bit of everything” and we aim to continue to break that cycle of websites coming and going.
