Letter to the Editor: Clean up Power Plants
Chalk Point Generating Station in Eagle Harbor, MD. (Wikipedia)
Dear Editor,
Senator Cardin’s statement, “water levels are increasing. Representing a coastal state like Maryland, we see that. We see the impact of [global warming],” was a clear sign that he understands the urgency of addressing global warming. Given the PR campaign by the dirty energy industry to spread junk science and deny climate change, elected officials making statements like this is critically important.
The next step is acting, and that means cleaning up our power plants – America’s number one source of carbon pollution – and shifting to more clean energy like wind, solar, and energy efficiency. President Obama is moving forward with a new climate action plan to limit carbon from power plants, but he’ll need the support of Marylanders to make that happen.
I urge more of Maryland’s elected leaders, to join Senator Cardin and support strong limits on carbon from power plants so that we can protect our children’s future from the worst impacts of global warming.
Sincerely,
Talya Tavor

Environment Maryland
Environment Maryland is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. We believe Maryland is full of special places worth protecting and preserving for future generations. Whether it’s the jagged coastline of the Eastern Shore, or the rolling hills of western Maryland, the state’s natural wonders enrich our lives in countless ways. Yet the places we love and the environmental values so many of us share are too often threatened by powerful industries, short-sighted politicians and more. Defending our environment requires independent research, tough-minded advocacy and spirited grassroots action. That’s the idea behind Environment Maryland. Together with thousands of supporters from all walks of life, we take the kind of action that wins tangible results for our environment.
