JAMSQUAD presents BikeFest

In partnership with the EPICENTER at Edgewood, Bike Maryland, and Bike Doctor, JAMSQUAD, a local nonprofit organization of cycling enthusiasts, will be hosting BikeFest on Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. at the EPICENTER at Edgewood.

BikeFest is a free community and family event offering a safe, fun and festive atmosphere for beginner bicyclists to learn more about bicycling, bicycle safety, and JAMSQUAD’s mission, “One Kid + One Bike.”

The festival will feature build-your-skills sessions, gear talks and fix-it clinics for anyone who wants to bring their bicycle for maintenance. Youth and teens will be able to practice and develop skills that will help them become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes. It also the goal to match restored bicycles to some youth that day.

“We all remember that special moment of riding a bicycle for the first time, and every kid should have that experience,” said JAMSQUAD President, Stefanie Plitt. “Unfortunately, for many children living in our community with difficult family circumstances, owning their own bicycle isn’t a reality, and the opportunities to ride a bicycle at all can be few and far between. Overall, we want the young people in our community to have an opportunity to not only have their own bicycle, but to ride it, and do so safely and smartly.”
