Killing Qasem Soleimani was an act of war

You have to love the irony. Trump orders the assassination of a top Iranian leader, Qasem Soleimani, in Iraq because, as his administration says, they want to stop imminent attacks on Americans and American interests in the region.

Then the Trump administration advises all private U.S. citizens and businesses in the region to leave due to imminent acts of revenge by Iran and Soleimani’s followers.

This would be funny if it wasn’t so stark. Killing a top government leader of another nation is an act of war.

There are now more American forces in the region than when Trump took office. The irony continues. When he was campaigning Trump said he wanted to get out of our endless wars and here he is escalating them. In 2011 he said then President Barack Obama would start a war with Iran to get re-elected. Instead, Obama negotiated a nuclear treaty with Iran. Now, 11 months before the election Trump carries out an act of war. The irony.

There really is a tweet for everything.

Obviously the Trump Administration didn’t warn our allies in Iraq and the region, let alone consult with them about the killing and all of its possible consequences. Those allies include our European partners and Australia.

Senate Majority Leader
Mitch McConnell (R-KY)

More irony: Moscow Mitch McConnell just stood in the well of the U.S. Senate and said all members of Congress should withhold judgement of this act of war until briefed by the White House and Pentagon. This, from the same Senate Majority Leader who said he was in lockstep with the White House over the impeachment trial of Donald J. Trump and that an acquittal in the Senate was assured.

This is a lawless president and administration and right now the entire Republican Party in Congress are his accomplices. Besides voting Trump out of office we need to remove as many Republicans from their seats in the Senate and House of Representatives to take any control away from these criminals.

This just in: the Pentagon is sending another 3,500 troops to the region around Iraq and Kuwait. The war with Iran isn’t coming, it is here.
