Governor Wes Moore administration imposes 338 new or increased taxes and fees

Since the end of the 2024 Legislative Session, the Joint Republican Caucus in the Maryland General Assembly has worked to tally the number of tax and fee increases that have occurred since Governor Moore took office, either at his direction or through the actions of the Democratic majority in the legislature. The number is staggering. It almost defies belief – 338 new or increased taxes and fees as of today.

Missing the Point – Taking Over Baltimore

It’s high time that we all take responsibility for saving the city of Baltimore. And, to that end, I’m suggesting that the legislature declare a state of public emergency and, yes folks, take over management of the city’s public education, public safety, economic development and infrastructure management. The city government can and should participate in the takeover, but cannot be in charge of it.

Moore emphasizes service in first State of the State speech

Gov. Wes Moore emphasized service and community and called for bipartisanship in achieving his vision during his first State of the State address Wednesday. “Despite the challenges that we have seen, I know the Marylanders that I have spoken to, they’re not only fast to offer solutions, but they’ve also expressed a deep hope and a deep desire to be part of the solution,” Moore said. “We can be a state that rewards, that celebrates, that elevates a culture of service and we must do it.”
