It may not seem like brain surgery to host a party and that you don’t need tips to do it. But, when you don’t have a plan at all, the night can go horribly wrong. It can be slow, there can be times when turns get skipped and often there are some heated arguments.

To avoid those kinds of problems, you need to have a plan of action and to stick to it. It isn’t complicated, but it is important to be able to head off any problems before they arise. Your guests will also appreciate the thought put in and will enjoy a hassle-free experience so they can implement their favorite NFL DFS or whatever sport the draft is for.

In this article, I will go over the things you need to do to host the ideal fantasy draft party.

1 – Have guests do their homework

Yes, you are going to ask your guests to do some homework before the night of the draft. Nothing crazy of course, but you should send them some materials that they can use that will help them during the draft.

They can use a draft simulator to get some ideas of who they want to pick and then have some resources to dig in deeper with research into their picks. This way the draft will go much more smoothly. There is nothing worse than people who arrive unprepared and slow the whole process down.

The more they research ahead of time the better. It will pay off when you give them a nudge to take action beforehand instead of waiting for the night of the party.

2 – Set up the rules

There need to be rules to make sure things don’t go off the rails. And everybody needs to understand how things are going to work. Make sure that you have a checklist of what to do with regards to how long in between picks so they have a countdown before they have to pick.

There are a number of things you can do to speed up the draft and also avoid any conflicts. When you have your rules laid out, make sure to send them to your guests ahead of time so they know what to expect when they get there.

3 – Serve food before the draft

It may seem good to serve snacks during the draft, which is fine. But, make sure that pizza ordered ahead of time and things like sandwiches or pasta or whatever you plan to serve are eaten before the draft starts. When people get hungry they will be distracted and often end up wandering away from the draft and risk missing turns.

Having full bellies before the start of the draft will keep everybody in their seat. Snacks can be served to keep people from getting hungry again later. It’s also good to have something so if there is beer being served that it doesn’t go overboard if there isn’t enough food.
