Maryland House Republican Caucus introduces legislative package to reduce crime, improve education and restore the state’s economy

Maryland has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the United States, yet the number of murders and violent crimes committed with guns continues to grow every year, with the overwhelming majority of those committed with stolen guns. Astonishingly, the Maryland General Assembly has for years refused to make the theft of a firearm a felony. Again this year, the House Republican Caucus will offer the Gun Theft Felony Act (HB 750) and fight to close this absurd loophole in Maryland law.

Maryland lawmakers make gun control a session priority

Lawmakers said The Gun Safety Act will fill the void in gun control that formed following the Supreme Court’s decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen. The court decided that law-abiding citizens do not need a “good and substantial” reason to be permitted to carry a concealed weapon and that this “proper cause to carry” requirement, used in several states, including Maryland, was unconstitutional according to the 14th Amendment.
