Rafael Alvarez talks about the craft of writing at the Creative Alliance

Rafael Alvarez, East Baltimore’s own, was a staff reporter for the Baltimore Sun for twenty-three years.  Soon after he left “The Sun,” he hooked up with David Simon, and wrote scripts for the TV Show, “Homicide: Life on the Street.” Later, Alvarez became a staff writer for “HBO’s The Wire,” a smash hit if there ever was one on cable. He also freelanced for numerous publications including the defunct Baltimore Examiner and writes for Baltimore Post-Examiner.

Alvarez shared his experiences  Monday with respect to the craft of writing as it relates to film production with the audience at the Creative Alliance. Recently, he’s been marketing his latest pilot, “Greektown,” and “The 13th Step,” a feature film, that he’s written with his actor/daughter, Amelia Alvarez.
