Maryland State Fair for 2017 is ‘Up and Running’

The Maryland State Fair (2017) is a year older. It is celebrating its 136th birthday this season. Located in Lutherville-Timonium, just off the 2200 block of York Road in Baltimore County, it’s tons of fun for the whole family, especially the kids.

You can start off with the “Main Carnival Midway.” Then, you can check out “Kiddie Land,” the “State Fair Park,” “Horseland,” the “Agriculture Farm and Garden Building,” and the “Horse Sale Pavilion.”

And, if you are up to it, there is also the “Racetrack Infield.” There is even a “4H/FFA Home Arts Building,” a “Sheep and Swine Building,” a “Cow Palace,” and much more.

There is some live entertainment for fair goers, as well. The schedule changes every day, so check the reference below to get your concert tickets early.

The fair started on Thursday, August 24th and ends on Monday, September 4th. There will be a full day of special events on the 4th. The program will run from 8:30 am to 8 pm. The Fair itself stays open till 10 pm.

There is even a “swifty swine race” at the Fair. The kids will love this one for sure.

I watched a couple of the thoroughbred horse races at the racetrack grandstand on Saturday, August 26 and that was a lot of fun.

The track has a very relaxed feeling to it, with some of the fans, jockey and assistants on a “how-you-doing-there-buddy” kind of basis with each other. https://vimeo.com/231219198

On Labor Day for $27, you can purchase unlimited “Ride all you can Ride.” The event schedule can be found here.

The food stands are plentiful. I tried out a ham and cheese sandwich with fries, and it was delightful.

Parking costs $5 and there’s also $8 admission charge for adults and $6 for seniors. There’s a discount for the kids – only $3 a head, ages 6 to 13. Children under 5 get in for free. That’s cool!
