Jimmy Carter falls ill in Guyana

Georgetown, Guyana: Former US President Jimmy Carter fell ill yesterday (9 May), in Guyana where he had gone to make preparations to observe that country’s general elections, which are scheduled to be held tomorrow, May 11, 2015.

Carter who is 90 years old, began to complain of feeling hot several hours after his arrival in the South American country, and was immediately shuttled out of Georgetown to seek medical intervention in the United States.

The Carter Centre later issued a statement stating that the former US President was feeling unwell and had to be flown back to Atlanta, GA in the United States.

The statement did not provide much detail except to say that the remainder of his observer team will stay in Guyana to observe the elections; and will keep Mr. Carter informed.
