From Sick Care to Health Care: Uncovering the Keto Diet

The ‘keto diet’ is a popular buzzword in the health and wellness space. Although, it is far more than the next Instagram trend. The Ketogenic Diet is one of the oldest diets in terms of research, dating back to the year 1921. In the 20s when medication was very limited, doctors discovered the keto diet to be an effective long-term treatment for children with epilepsy. Medication has since advanced at light speed, but the Keto diet continues to emerge as a natural treatment for a range of conditions.

Keto and Diabetes

Today, the ketogenic diet is being explored as a potential solution for diabetes. In the last three years, type 2 diabetes has grown 41% among young individuals. The disease is typically seen in adults over the age of forty but these days, more and more children are confronting these challenges and advanced consequences. It’s a devastating epidemic in malnutrition and it demands a radical shift in the way we see and consume food. According to Healthline, the keto diet can help to change the way your body stores and uses energy, which may potentially alleviate diabetes symptoms. The high fat, low carb diet can generally improve blood glucose levels, while simultaneously lowering the need for insulin as well. In a recent study, researchers compared the effects of a ketogenic diet versus a low-glycemic diet in participants with type 2 diabetes and obesity. At the end of the study, those who followed the keto diet showcased a greater overall improvement in glycemic control along with a decreased reliance on medication.

What Is the Keto Diet?

At first glance, the keto diet might sound counterintuitive. ‘How is a high-fat diet going to help me lose weight?’ we ask ourselves. In fact, one of the greatest misconceptions about the diet is that it is a gateway to copious amounts of saturated fats. In reality, the Keto Diet encourages us to eat real whole foods and heart-healthy fats (think wild salmon, avocado oil, eggs, and hard cheeses).

Put simply, Ketosis is a natural metabolic state. By limiting the body’s store of glucose, Ketosis causes our bodies to be fueled and energized by fat rather than carbs. For ‘The Keto Doctor’, Dr. John Limansky MD, the keto diet completely redefines both nutrition and weight loss. “It is a pathway to eating real non-processed foods in the right ratio. This method will promote the loss of fat, not a loss of weight, which can be water and muscle mass. There are no gimmicks with this way of eating, no fancy shakes nor crazy cleanses. It’s a way to optimize our cells by decreasing the constant influx of glucose and fructose found in many of the commonly eaten processed foods products.”

Redefining Health Care

While modern healthcare has made great strides in providing solutions that enhance longevity and quality of life, the healthcare industry continues to be rather reactive, catering to patients in the form of ‘sick care’. As one of the foremost authorities on the Keto diet, Dr. John Limansky hopes to transform healthcare by returning to the basic building blocks of health. His informative website, biohackmd.com does just that, providing recipes, videos, articles, and the latest research to educate readers on the Keto diet and the journey to optimum health. Supplementing a healthy diet, BiohackMD currently offers three natural keto products, including Keto Matrix, Green Matrix, and Whey Matrix along with a Multi Collagen Matrix that will launch this March.

 The Most Rewarding Life Hack

Dr. Limansky developed BiohackMD as a way to have a conversation with your physician and to fill the gaps in client-patient interaction. In this conversation, Dr. Limansky combines a ketogenic lifestyle with Biohacking to optimize wellness. Biohacking is one of the most rewarding ‘life hacks’ out there. It breaks down the science of how your body works and how it interacts with the environment around you in order to make positive shifts in your biology and health. “My goal is to revolutionize health care by going back to the basic building blocks which constitute health. Diet is obviously a key component, but lifestyle also can play a huge role. By introducing the concept of biohacking to the public, my goal is to show how everyone can regain their health, wellness and increase longevity while being able to stop taking medications which work to suppress symptoms not address the root cause of modern western diseases,” he adds.

For many, the keto diet transcends every sense of the word. Rather than a restrictive diet, it is a lifestyle full of options and opportunities to reach one’s goals. Today, health care is all about going back to basics and feeling healthy from the inside out.

The ketogenic way of eating is hardly a diet when done right. It reverses most diseases we see today. As doctors, we spend so much time fixing a problem. The root cause of our sickness is diet and environment. Kudos to medical doctors who don’t play into the standard system of care. It’s not easy.
