Evasons, Cirque Victoriana fill out Halloween week at Creative Alliance

The excitement of Halloween is always fresh in the eyes of a child. Scary costumes, spooky stories and candy are enough to keep children occupied for days. Kids also love the sights and sounds of the bewitching holiday, but more than anything, kids love to be astonished and amazed.

Adults tend to settle for less.

Making contact with the other sideAfter squeezing into dad’s moth-eaten disco duds or turning mom’s cooking apron into a sorry excuse for Flo from Progressive insurance, many party-goers opt for a steady stream of Michelob and mindless chatter.

Not the most exciting way to spend Halloween. Even the Charlie Brown special would be a better bet.

Take it from the kids ~ Halloween should astonish and amaze.

Luckily, the Creative Alliance is featuring not one, but two events this week that are sure to wow even the most jaded Flo wanna-be.

Tessa Evason
Tessa Evason

Tonight, on the heels of their incredible early summer Patterson Theatre debut, Tessa and Jeff Evason return to the Creative Alliance for one show only – to communicate, through amulets and audience members, with the spirit world.

Jeff and Tessa Evason’s unique combination of talent and showmanship never ceases to amaze. The couple blend psychology and psychic intuition as they take their audience through a series of interactive adventures leading up to their specialty – Second Sight.

The Evasons have been entertaining crowds around the world for more than thirty years. Now based in Annapolis, Tessa and Jeff are reaching out to Maryland area audiences.

As one who has watched them perform, it is not empty hype for this reporter to say Tessa’s special talents must be seen to be believed. Skeptics should note that the couple insist that nothing is prearranged with secret assistants or audience members. The Evasons even offer a $100,000 reward if anyone can prove otherwise!

This show starts tonight at 7:30 p.m. Tickets were still available at press time and can be purchased online, by phone or at the box office. If you go, take a keepsake or two along in your purse. You never know who from your past will stop by to say “boo”.

Cirque VictorianaFilling out this eventful week at the Creative Alliance is a lush costume party called Cirque Victoriana. This soirée celebrating the gilded age of Victorian circuses, will feature fire jugglers, hula-hoopers, visual artists, projectionists, ballroom dancing and a sprawling, gal-fronted brass band – the West Philadelphia Orchestra.

The Victorian era was know for its opulent excesses, so the Creative Alliance is pulling out all of the stops for this event. Suggested attire is Victorian, though I’m sure Edwardian will get you in just the same. The key here is to, “dress like you live in a society that just invented technology and had money to spend on the circus!”

The party will also give attendees a chance to meet the resident artists at the Creative Alliance. Second floor studios will be open to view from 8-9:30 p.m.

Festivities start at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night, Nov. 1. More information about Cirque Victoriana may be found here.
